Vesak is a religious and cultural festival celebrated in Sri Lanka on the full moon in the month of May. Buddhists commemorate the three important events in the life of Lord Buddha – the brith of Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini in Nepal, Siddharta Gautam’s supreme attainment as the Buddha, the Enlightened One and Lord Buddha’s Parinibbana over 2500 years ago. Colorful Vesak Pandols and Lanterns are illuminated in public places and homes.
